Draft, pending counsel review. Not in force. What this means

These rules keep requests lawful, records honest and payments safe. Breaking them can lead to removed content, held funds or a closed account.

1. Scope

This Acceptable Use Policy (the Policy) forms part of the Terms of Service. It applies to every User of the service operated by [Aligner, Inc.], a Delaware corporation (Aligner, we, us), including every person who acts for an organization.

It covers everything you do through Aligner: requests, offers, messages, submissions, evidence, reviews, profile content and any interaction with an escrow contract.

2. Prohibited requests

A team may not publish, fund or send offers for a request that:

  • asks for work that is illegal where the team or the contributor is located, or that helps anyone break the law;
  • selects or excludes contributors on a protected characteristic, such as race, colour, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, disability, age or genetic information, unless the law expressly allows that criterion for that work;
  • is in substance employment, for example by requiring fixed hours under the team's direction, exclusivity, or ongoing integration into the team's workforce;
  • asks for unpaid spec work, a free trial deliverable or any work the team does not fund in escrow;
  • seeks accounts, credentials, identity checks, verifications or personhood results to be created, sold or passed to someone else;
  • asks for security testing, penetration testing or vulnerability research on systems the team does not own or is not authorized in writing to test;
  • asks for content that is sexually explicit, defamatory, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights;
  • is placed for, or on behalf of, a person or jurisdiction restricted under our Sanctions and Compliance policy.

3. Prohibited contributor conduct

A contributor may not:

  • misrepresent their identity, skills, experience, availability or location;
  • present a self-reported claim as if Aligner or a provider had verified it;
  • submit work they did not create, or copy someone else's work without permission or attribution (plagiarism);
  • upload evidence that is confidential, covered by a non-disclosure agreement, or owned by someone else, unless they have the right to share it;
  • accept an offer they do not intend or are not able to complete;
  • pass an assignment to someone else to perform without the team's written consent.

4. Gaming records and badges

Track records, Work Proofs and badges only have value if they reflect real paid work. You may not:

  • create, fund or accept fake requests to earn Work Proofs, badges, tiers or track record;
  • collude with another User to approve, reject, review or dispute work on terms that do not reflect the actual work (wash work);
  • pay or reward anyone, on or off Aligner, for a review, an approval or a badge;
  • hold more than one personal account, or use another person's account, to influence matching, records or reviews;
  • manipulate the matching rules, for example by stating availability or capabilities you do not have.

We may revoke Work Proofs and badges earned this way. See Verification and Work Proofs.

5. Moving work off Aligner

You may not use Aligner to find a counterparty and then move the matched work, or payment for it, outside Aligner to avoid the service fee or escrow.

The full rule, including how long it applies, is in the Terms of Service.

6. Platform and escrow integrity

You may not:

  • harass, threaten, impersonate or discriminate against anyone;
  • send spam, unsolicited promotions or bulk messages;
  • upload or link to malware, phishing pages or anything designed to harm a device or account;
  • scrape, crawl or bulk-export profiles, requests or records, except through a feature we provide for that purpose;
  • probe, test or overload our systems, or bypass any access control or rate limit;
  • attempt to interfere with, exploit or drain an escrow contract, sign a release you are not entitled to, or front-run or replay a transaction;
  • use Aligner to launder money, finance terrorism or evade sanctions.

7. Evidence and uploads

When you upload evidence, a work sample or a submission, you confirm that:

  • you created it, or you have the right to share it for this purpose;
  • sharing it does not breach a confidentiality obligation, an NDA or anyone's intellectual property;
  • it does not contain another person's personal data unless you are allowed to share it;
  • what you say about it is accurate.

Anyone may report evidence they believe breaks these rules through the Reporting Content process. We may remove or hide it while we review the report, and we will tell you why.

8. Enforcement

We act in proportion to the breach, its severity and any history of breaches. Depending on the case we may:

  1. warn you;
  2. remove or restrict content, a request or an offer;
  3. lower or remove visibility in matching;
  4. revoke Work Proofs or badges;
  5. pause new funding or payouts while we investigate, within what the escrow contract allows;
  6. suspend or close the account, as set out in the Terms of Service.

We give a statement of reasons and a way to complain, as described in Reporting Content. Serious breaches, such as fraud or sanctions evasion, may be reported to the authorities.

9. Contact

Report abuse to [abuse@aligner.network]. Questions about this Policy go to [legal@aligner.network].
